QR code for your menu.

New prices, a dish of the day, the autumn menu: printed menus date quickly. A QR code on the table takes guests to your menu online. With a dynamic code the same table stand later shows the new menu.

Error correction

Higher means sturdier against scratches and logos, but denser. “Automatic” fits almost always.

Size per level: L 29 × 29 · M 33 × 33 · Q 33 × 33 · H 41 × 41

Smallest print width for 20 cm distance: L 2.5 cm · M 3 cm · Q 3 cm · H 3.5 cm

Level Q is the same size as M here and copes with more dirt and scratches (about 25 instead of 15 %).

Level H needs a finer grid here (41 × 41 instead of 29 × 29). Print the code a little larger then. The shorter the content, the coarser the grid.

Should the target stay changeable?

With a free account you get 3 more codes, dynamic ones, each active for 7 days from creation: change the target later, with statistics.

How your menu gets onto the table

Four steps from link to table stand.

  1. 1

    Put the menu online

Your menu needs an address, such as a page on your website. Without a website, a dynamic code shows a page with text or an image, see below.

  2. 2

    Design the code

Enter the address above and choose colours and your logo. The “See the menu” frame tells guests what to expect.

  3. 3

    Print

For table stands, stickers or the back of the menu. The CMYK print file goes straight to the printer.

  4. 4

Change the menu, keep the code

With a dynamic code you enter the new address under “My codes” or swap the image. The table stands stay where they are.

Size and print

Our rule of thumb: a module, the smallest dot of the code, is at least one three-hundredth of the scanning distance, and never under 0.4 mm.

  • Table stands

A link like your-restaurant.com/menu makes 29 × 29 modules at error correction M, the usual level. For a 20 cm distance 2.5 cm is enough; for 50 cm, 6.5 cm.

  • With a logo

With a logo the error correction rises to H, the highest level, and the code has 33 × 33 modules. That means 3 cm for 20 cm and 7 cm for a 50 cm distance.

  • Light and surface

Matt surfaces reflect less than high gloss. That helps the camera under spotlights and candlelight.

Common mistakes

  • Static code, new address

If the menu moves to another address, a static code still leads to the old one. With a dynamic code you change the target instead.

  • Not made for phones

A menu you have to zoom into on a phone is no fun to read. Check the page on a phone first.

  • A code without a hint

A code with no words next to it looks like decoration. The “See the menu” frame shows what the scan is for.

With a free account

New menu, same code

In your account the code leads through a short link. When the new menu arrives, you change the target or show a page with a photo of the menu. The table stands stay. In the free account every code is active for 7 days from creation, then paused until you choose a paid plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a website for the QR code?

For a static code, yes: it needs an address. Without a website you create a code in your account that shows a page with text or an image. That can be a photo of your menu (PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF up to 2 MB). In the free account every code is active for 7 days from creation, then paused until you choose a paid plan. See pricing

Can I change the menu without reprinting?

If only the content of your page changes, a static code is enough: it always leads to the same address. With a dynamic code you can also change the address or swap the image, and the printed codes stay.

How large should the code be on the table?

At least 2.5 cm for a 20 cm distance, 3 cm with a logo. Once created, the generator shows the minimum size for your code.

Can I see how often the menu is opened?

With a dynamic code, yes: the statistics in your account show scans per day, countries, devices and browsers.
